Pipeline drone inspection (UAV inspection) uses unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with advanced sensors to inspect pipelines from the air — providing rapid, cost-effective data collection for pipeline integrity assessment across large distances and challenging terrain.
EMPIT's Black Copter is a purpose-built pipeline inspection drone that flies fully autonomously along the pipeline route. It detects the electromagnetic field generated by an inspection current and follows the pipeline path without manual guidance. The Black Copter is equipped with GPS, dual LiDARs, radar, IMU, and an AI-driven magnetic sensor bar based on EMPIT's patented CMI (Current Magnetometry Inspection) technology.
Capabilities include:\n• Pipeline depth of cover measurement\n• 3D pipeline position mapping\n• Bending strain and movement analysis\n• Coating condition assessment\n• Corrosion detection from the air
The Black Copter excels in environments where ground-based access is limited — including water crossings, steep slopes, restricted zones, and offshore pipeline routes. Data is processed in real time and delivered directly to the operator's Pipeline Information Management System (PIMS).
