CHALLENGE

It is well known that the best way to inspect pipeline integrity is by using In-Line-Inspection (ILI) tools. They produce highly detailed results as they run directly through the pipeline with only a few mm distance from the pipe wall. While this fact enables high data resolution, it also serves as an obstacle, setting certain geometrical requirements for the pipeline. When these requirements are satisfied, ILI tools can be safely used classifying this pipeline as “Piggable”.

SOLUTION

Many pipeline operators find themselves in a situation where they are unsure if their pipeline is piggable or not. This is mainly due to the lack of information regarding bend geometry. EMPIT offers these operators a highly accurate and precise inspection method to assess piggability of pipelines from grounds surface, avoiding any and all excavations. Current Magnetometry Inspection (CMI) tools are able to locate pipelines centerline and records its XYZ location through a direct connection to the GPS. Data processing provides a detailed geometrical overview of bend angles, lengths and radii for any Horizontal and Vertical bends.
