The security of water supply is ensured through CMI
The evaluation of cast iron pipelines that transport fresh water is very challenging.
Especially in cities where other infrastructure is laying parallel to the pipeline that is need of inspection. EMPIT is offering CMI - a nowadays strongly used solution for the condition assessment of buried pipelines in high consequence areas. This can be pipelines buried under heavily frequented roads, major transport lines that run through cities, or small diameter supply lines, where the condition and the renaming asset lifetime is uncertain.
With using CMI, operators have the possibility to prioritize measures and are capable to take action where needed.
This saves not only a significant amount of money, it also reduces operator's human resources for planning processes and budgeting.
Inspection runs have revealed that some pipelines were in a relatively bad condition, while other inspected sections showed a significantly better condition. Although the diameter and year of construction were very similar. Consequently, our client decided to take action and replace some sections of the network.
For many pipeline operators in the market, this is a major step for asset integrity and network planning.
This usage of CMI, a remote inspection technology for the earth's surface, is a first right step to make the water supply more reliable and reduce pipeline burst in cities.
It’s for a reason that we are amongst Germany’s Top 100 innovators. Because our mission is to overcome these inspection challenges and, together with our clients, continuously improve the safety and reliability of all pipelines.
